Subhadra Yojana: What is the Scheme Being Launched by the Prime Minister Today, Offering ₹10,000 Annually to Women?

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the much-anticipated Subhadra Yojana in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Aimed at empowering women economically, this scheme was introduced by the state government and prominently featured in the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) manifesto for the upcoming state assembly elections. The scheme will provide annual financial assistance of ₹10,000 to eligible women in Odisha, helping improve their financial independence and livelihood.

Key Details of Subhadra Yojana

The Subhadra Yojana is designed to distribute ₹10,000 annually to women in two installments of ₹5,000 each. These installments will be deposited directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries on the occasions of Rakhi Purnima and International Women’s Day. The scheme is targeted at women between the ages of 21 and 60 years, with over one crore women in Odisha expected to benefit from it.

This financial assistance program will run for five years, from the current fiscal year 2024-25 until the 2028-29 fiscal year. The Odisha state cabinet has already allocated a substantial budget of ₹55,825 crore for the successful implementation of Subhadra Yojana. With a long-term vision, the scheme is aimed at promoting the welfare of women and supporting their economic needs.

Eligibility Criteria for Subhadra Yojana

Only women who are economically weak will be eligible for the Subhadra Yojana. Government employees and women who pay income tax will not be included in the scheme. Additionally, if a woman is receiving financial assistance of ₹15,000 or more annually from other government schemes, she will not qualify for this program.

In an effort to promote digital transactions in both urban and rural areas, the beneficiaries of the Subhadra Yojana will be provided with a Subhadra Debit Card. This card will enable women to access their funds easily and participate in digital transactions. As part of this initiative, 100 beneficiaries who actively engage in digital payments will be selected for an additional incentive of ₹500.
