In the wake of Operation Sindoor, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has stepped up its efforts to combat misinformation and strengthen cybersecurity awareness across the nation. On Friday, MeitY published a crucial set of dos and don’ts for internet users via a post on X (formerly Twitter), urging citizens to stay informed, alert, and responsible in the digital space.
With an increased risk of misleading content and fake news circulating after Operation Sindoor, MeitY’s message is clear: “Stay cautious while online—don’t fall for traps or misinformation. Be patriotic, stay vigilant, stay safe.”
This advisory follows a spike in deceptive social media posts, manipulated images, and disinformation campaigns that threaten public order and national security. The government’s response aims to prevent panic, protect sensitive national interests, and ensure that verified, accurate information is shared.

Government’s Proactive Measures: Countering Disinformation With Facts
The PIB’s fact-checking wing has been actively countering several false claims circulating online. Some recent instances include:
Debunking of Alleged Pakistani Strikes on Amritsar Military Base
Fact-checking viral messages claiming that ATMs would remain closed for 2-3 days
Clarifying misleading videos attempting to distort the reality of Operation Sindoor
This coordinated approach between MeitY, PIB, and state media reflects the Indian government’s growing emphasis on digital hygiene and responsible internet usage.
