Alert: If you buy a car from outside and register it in Chandigarh, road tax will increase.

The Advisor to the Chandigarh Administration, Dharam Pal, has directed the Registration and Licensing Authority to prepare a proposal to increase the road tax on vehicles (four wheelers and two wheelers of any category) purchased from outside UT Chandigarh. This move comes as many people buy vehicles from neighboring states like Panchkula or Mohali and get them registered in Chandigarh. The proposal will be in line with other states that have similar regulations.
On the other hand, the Chandigarh Administration has decided to incentivize the purchase of electric vehicles (EVs) from other states. Previously, residents of Chandigarh were not given any incentives for buying EVs from other states and getting them registered in Chandigarh. However, under the new EV policy, residents who buy EVs from other states and register them in Chandigarh will be eligible for incentives.
It is important to note that these measures are being taken to encourage the use of EVs and to discourage the purchase of vehicles from outside the UT. By promoting the use of EVs, we can reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner and greener environment.
