Punjab: 107 vehicles impounded to stop GST evasion

During a two-day special checking drive in Mandi Gobindgarh, Excise and Taxation Minister Harpal Singh Cheema announced that 107 vehicles were seized for not having the required e-way bill and other necessary documents. The goods being transported by these vehicles were thoroughly checked, and it is expected that a fine of over Rs 2 crore will be recovered from the defaulters.
The checking drive was conducted by the mobile wings of Patiala, Ludhiana, State Intelligence, and Preventive Unit (SIPU) on August 23, resulting in the seizure of 55 vehicles. On August 24, the mobile wings of Ropar, Patiala, and Shambhu seized an additional 52 vehicles. These efforts are part of the government’s ongoing initiatives to combat GST evasion.
To further strengthen their efforts, the Tax Intelligence Unit (TIU) and Data Mining Wing are utilizing the latest techniques and software to prevent GST evasion. These units are employing advanced technology to analyze data and identify potential cases of tax evasion, ensuring that appropriate action can be taken
