Reliance Jio has recently relaunched its Rs. 189 prepaid plan for subscribers in India after briefly discontinuing it. The move follows the telecom regulator TRAI’s directive to provide standalone special tariff vouchers (STVs) for voice calls and SMS. The reintroduced plan is now categorized under ‘affordable packs’ within the broader ‘value pack’ category, offering unlimited voice calls, free SMS, and a bundled data pack at an attractive price.
Details of the Rs. 189 Prepaid Plan
According to a report by TelecomTalk, Jio’s Rs. 189 prepaid plan provides 28 days of validity, unlimited voice calls, and 300 free SMS. Additionally, subscribers will receive 2GB of high-speed data, after which the speed will be reduced to 64Kbps. The plan also includes complimentary subscriptions to JioTV, JioCinema, and JioCloud, but does not offer JioCinema Premium Access.
Comparison with Other Jio Prepaid Plans
Currently, the Rs. 189 prepaid plan is Jio’s most affordable option in the value pack category. The next closest alternative is the Rs. 199 plan, which provides 1.5GB of daily data, 100 SMS per day, and 18 days of validity.
Besides these, Jio has also introduced new voice-only prepaid plans such as:
- Rs. 1,958 plan (valid for 365 days) – later revised to Rs. 1,748 with 336 days validity.
- Rs. 458 plan (valid for 84 days) – later adjusted to Rs. 448 while keeping the same validity and benefits.
Upcoming Plans and Revisions
Jio has been actively revising its tariff plans to offer more competitive pricing. It is expected that the telecom operator might soon introduce longer-validity value plans with additional data benefits.
With these updates, Jio continues to cater to a diverse user base by offering budget-friendly prepaid options, ensuring affordability alongside essential services such as voice calling, SMS, and digital entertainment platforms.
